Since receiving her certification, she has taught Pilates on a full-time basis in the Albany area. Lynda's entire professional career has been dedicated to movement and the teaching of movement. In 1989, she received a BA in dance from Virginia Intermont College. An American Dance Festival scholarship recipient, Lynda has studied dance with Paul Taylor and Bill T. Jones, among others. She has danced with the Atlantic Dance Theater, Syracuse Contemporary Dance Theater, the Theater of West Virginia, and for 16 years with Maude Baum and Co. and eba Dance Theater in Albany. While at Maude Baum and Co., Lynda -- who was “widely thought to be the areas most outstanding modern dancer” (Metroland Feb. 24, 1994) -- performed works by Isadora Duncan, Charles Weidman and Kevin Wynn. Lynda also performed in Russia with Maude Baum & Co. in 1993 and taught at the performing arts school in St. Petersburg Russia. Lynda also taught dance at the New York State Theatre Institute and the RPI dance club. Lynda's dance choreography has also received critical acclaim. She discovered Pilates in 2001 as a means to alleviate chronic lower back pain.
THE DAILY GAZETTE, “Baum troupe performs with spirit,” by Wendy Liberatore, June 1991. Review of Maude Baum and Company Dance Theatre's Dances Made in Albany, performed at the Egg, June 1991:
“In the quiet, the dancers appeared removed, as if under glass. The dome of remoteness was lifted when Lynda Capocefalo burst on stage. She danced a whirlwind solo of falls and releases that was a joy to watch. Capocefalo articulates and invigorates every part of her body. Her lovely, long line and her fearless attack exhilarate.”
